Resources

Case information

K&L Gates has a great database of ediscovery cases, searchable by FRCP rule, context and issue with some full text search (for example, Facebook or a judge’s name.)

Rules information

Cornell hosts hyperlinked, current Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and the Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE).

Pending Amendments are hosted on the government us courts website.  The PDF (right side) looks very large, but it also contains the amendments to the Bankruptcy Code.

Ediscovery Organizations

The Sedona Conference®

The Sedona Conference® broke new ground by including legal practitioners from both sides of the “V”.  Plaintiff and Defense attorneys worked together with judges, academics, consultants and service providers to create and publish Principals and Guidelines.  Often cited by judges in advance of rule changes, the The Sedona Conference® is an oasis of cooperation in our adversarial system.

EDRM

The Electronic Discovery Reference Model or EDRM organization was the first cross functional group to agree to frameworks for workflow for eDiscovery.  Founded by George Socha and Tom Gelbmann, the organization is moving toward a not for profit model.  Recently, EDRM published frameworks for Computer Assisted Review, Information Governance and Privacy.

Women in eDiscovery

Women in eDiscovery is a membership driven educational and networking organization.  Chapters meet locally throughout the year, and the organization sponsors a great party at LegalTech NY.   Founded by Margaret Havinga, Lana Schell and Shawnna Childress, WiE has grown to over 5000 members.

Organization of Legal Professionals (OLP)

Founded by Chere Estrin, OLP has hundreds of courses and offers certification in eDiscovery, the CEDP.  I am on the Board of Governors and helped in the development of the certification by contributing the book I wrote while at Fios (with Fios’ permission, of course), A Process of Illumination: the Practical Guide to Electronic Discovery.
